Petanque Rules Summary

NUMBER OF PLAYERS
Corporate petanque is played with four people on each team.

DURATION
Each game shall be of 24 minutes duration. The number of ends in each game depends on the speed of play.

COURT RANGE
The boules are tossed a distance of six to ten metres.

HOW TO PLAY
Toss a coin to decide which team is to start the game.

A member of the starting team can have up to three attempts at placing the jack correctly before the opposition gains the right to throw it out.

The tossing of the jack is alternated between teams at the start of each end.

A member of the starting team throws their boule as close to the jack as possible. both feet must be remain inside the bouling circle until the boule has landed.

Then a member of the opposing team stands in the bouling circle and, either tries to place a boule even closer to the jack, or tries to hit the leading boule away from the jack.

Play continues with whichever team does not have the leading boule, trying to get closer to the jack.

Each team must alternate their players when tossing the boules.

When both teams have used up all their boules, the score for the end is tallied by both teams agreeing how many boules the winning side has nearer to the jack than the losing team.

Each boule that out-points the other team’s closest boule gains one point and a match is won by the team that is ahead after time has expired.

GAME FORMAT
In each team players will be known as:
Player A
Player B
Player C
Player D

Each end is played as doubles:
A + B vs A + B
C + D vs C + D
A + D vs A + D
B + C vs B + C
A + C vs A + C
B + D vs B + D

Repeat the format if needed until the time has expired.
